Human Rights Education", a workshop for the Education Sector Staff

The Jordanian Center for Civic Education Studies, in cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, conducted a workshop entitled “Human Rights Education for the Education Sector Staff". The workshop started on 2nd March, 2010 and was attended by 30 participants from the education sector representing the curricular and the training departments in the Ministry of Education as well as some UNRWA and private schools.

The workshop opened with a welcoming speech by Dr. Martin Beck, resident representative of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, who expressed his pleasure for the conduction of this workshop with the cooperation of the Jordanian Center for Civic Education Studies. He added that the issue of human rights is of utmost importance to his organization saying that "the idea of Human Rights has basically changed the fate of mankind" and wished great success to those involved.

In her welcoming speech, Mrs. Mona Al Alami, executive director of the Jordanian Center for Civic Education Studies presented a brief idea about the Center which was established in 2003 and which carries out civic education, human rights and media workshops directed at school students, teachers and university students as well as youth and women sectors.

Al-Sharif: King Abdullah II is the Primary Patron of the Freedom of the Press

Minister of State for Information and Communication, the official Spokesman for the Jordanian Government, Dr. Nabil Al Sharif, stated that His Majesty King Abdullah II is the primary patron of the freedom of  press with his constant calls for a freedom with the sky as its limit and which is responsible for placing the higher interests of the nation as its top priority.

He said that hope is placed on the youth of the country and the nation to change for the better and to pay attention to issues of community development, the welfare of citizen, the promotion of freedom and openness to others, and the glorification of the values of Islam and Arabism.

 Al-Sharif added during his patronage of the conclusion of the Workshop on Media and Civic Education entitled (Youth for Change), which was organized by the Jordanian Center for Civic Education Studies in Amman yesterday, that information policies in Jordan are based on venerating national interests and strengthening the belonging to the Arab and Muslim nations.

 Al-Sharif pointed out that care for the youth is one of His Majesty’s priorities, where the King has always emphasized that youth are the Knights of Change, who are capable of bringing about a qualitative leap in the nation's future and achieving a bright future for generations to come.

He emphasized the government's keenness to support the youth, empower and encourage them to innovate, invest their energies and involve them in public life. He called for the training of young leaders to qualify them to carry out the responsibility in national institutions and to develop a serious youth identity, which would take initiative.

He said that youth are the hope and future of the nation in the process of building and development. He pointed out that change is our goal and aspiration in order to achieve the progress of the country and the nation through development and by keeping pace with science and technology while preserving our fundamentals and pure and inherent values.

The Director of the Jordanian Center for Civic Education Studies, Mona Al-Alami, on her part, indicated that the participants, who are students in Damascus University and the University of Jordan, in the eight days workshop, were at a high level of professionalism, discipline and excellence. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Al-Sharif presented certificates to the 15 participants in the workshop.
