Preparing Youth to be Active Engaged
Citizens
The project is directed at young Jordanian
students (grades 6-10) and aims at engaging them in civic education activities
by working on problems in their local community. The project focuses on MOE
public school students in 5 directorates: Al Tafileh, Al Karak, Al Mazar, Al
Qasr and Al Aghwar to provide them with the knowledge to experience democracy in
action, to build their volunteer spirit and to encourage them to be active
participants in their community.
Enhancing Citizenship among University Students:
This
project is conducted at the University of Jordan in Amman and at Mu’tah
University in Kerak, south of Jordan.
The project objective is to raise civic awareness
and participation among university students. The project will be also launched
at the Hashemite University in Zarka.

Engaging Newly Graduated Teachers in Civic Education
Training at Ministry of Education Schools:
This project targets school-age youth in an attempt to build and
enhance their knowledge of civic rights. The project aims to
create empowered and well informed teachers and students who
will be able to carry on relevant activities beyond the life of
the project itself. This project is being carried out in Lebanon
and Palestine with organizations specialized in civic education.

Engaging and Empowering
Emerging Leaders in Universities of Jordan:
In the partnership with World Learning Organization, JCCES
aims to build on the socio political awareness and
emerging of Jordanian youth through developing capacity
and establishing youth civil society networks.

Workshops for Teachers and University
Students:
JCCES partnered with Konrad
Adenaur Stiftung in Amman to conduct civic education and
human rights workshops
for educators in private and public schools, and an introductory civic education
workshop for students coming from different universities in
Jordan.

Partnership with the Center for Civic Education
JCCES has been happy to work with the
center for civic education, Calabasas USA on youth and
community civic education projects, where by CCE provided support and training
on it's curricular materials. Past and present collaborative efforts between the
JCCEs and the Center include:

The We the people: Project Citizen and foundation of democracy
curricular materials were adapted for K-12 Students, and
training was provided to teachers throughout the country.

From 2006 to 2008 Jcces worked with the CCE
to develop a software based version of project citizen civic
education curriculum in Arabic and English for The Jordanian
Ministry of Education Discovery schools.

Currently JCCES and the CCE is partnerning
for Civitas: an International Civic Education Exchange Program

International Civic Education Exchange:
JCCES has an on going civic education
and human rights partnership with the Center of civic Education in Calabasas and
the Idaho Human Right Education Center. Exchanges of delegations of educators and educational
policy leaders; partnership projects between Irish, Jordanian, Colombian
and Idaho schools, seminars and workshops relating to civic education;
adaptation, development, and implementation of civic education materials and
programs in schools and youth groups.
Hallmarks of the partnership include the integration
of a human rights framework and the use of technology in education for
democracy.
